5.8.2.1.14.3.  Generate image data/preview images with batch run

[Note] Note

Via the Generate image data/preview images command two basic functions are available:

  1. Generate previews:

    You can create the preview images used in the application. See Section 5.8.2.1.14.3.1, “ Generate previews ”.

  2. Export images:

    You have the option of exporting large amounts of parts in any export format to an assigned target directory at directory level. SeeSection 5.8.2.1.14.3.2, “ Export images ”.

The file export per batch run is only possible with the respective License!

The function is available on project and directory level both in PARTdataManager , and in PARTproject:

  • Call in PARTdataManager

    PARTdataManager -> Generate image data/preview images

    PARTdataManager -> Generate image data/preview images

  • Call in PARTproject

    Project selection -> Context menu on directory or project level -> Output -> Generate image data/preview images

    Project selection -> Context menu on directory or project level -> Output -> Generate image data/preview images

In order to create preview images in batch run, proceed as follows:

  1. Select a directory or project.

  2. In the context menu, select Generate image data/preview images.

    --> The dialog box Export images is opened.

In the following the setting options are explained in detail:

5.8.2.1.14.3.1.  Generate previews

Previews are displayed at different places.

  • Under Part selection, each catalog has a preview image for catalog, directory and project level.

  • Under Part view -> Links, preview images are displayed as well.

In the following the complete procedure for preview image creation is explained.

5.8.2.1.14.3.1.1. Launch

The function is located at project and directory level in PARTdataManager [30], as well as in PARTproject:

  • Launch in PARTdataManager

    Part selection -> context menu on directory or project level -> Generate image data/preview images

    Part selection -> context menu on directory or project level -> Generate image data/preview images

  • Launch in PARTproject

    Project selection -> context menu on directory or project level -> Output -> Generate image data/preview images

    Project selection -> context menu on directory or project level -> Output -> Generate image data/preview images

    PARTdataManager must be installed.

5.8.2.1.14.3.1.2. Preferences

5.8.2.1.14.3.1.2.1. "Default options" tabbed page

  • Export mode:

    Select the Generate previews option.

  • Source directory

    The source directory is automatically given. Usually the field entries do not change.

    Via browse button ... you can adjust the path as desired.

    • With subdirectories

      You may also include the subdirectories for creating preview images.

    • With hidden projects

      You can include hidden projects for the preview generation optionally.

  • Format / Version

    In the list field, select the desired format. You have three formats available for creating a preview image: PNG, Maxwell Render, POV-Ray.

    • PNG

      If under Format the option PNG is selected, after confirming the selection by clicking OK, the dialog box Export using PNG format opens.

    • Maxwell Render

      If under Format the selection Maxwell Render is made, after confirming the settings by clicking on OK, the dialog box Export Maxwell Render format opens.

      A detailed description of the settings is found under Section 3.1.9.3.3, “Maxwell Render 3D ” in PARTsolutions / PARTcommunity4Enterprise - User manual. If under Render the selection Transfer to server is made, then the generation is running, supported by the module PARTrenderManager, which is also described in this section.

    • POV-Ray

      Create your preview images in high quality with POV-Ray Rendering.

      [Note] Note

      For POV-Ray preview images you need your own license!

      If under Format the selection POV-Ray is made, after confirming the settings by clicking on OK, the dialog box Export in POV-Ray format opens.

  • Version: Not to be used for Generate previews.

  • Preview:

    • Mode:

      From the list field, select whether the batch run is to access project or directory level or both.

      • Projects

        Previews are only generated for projects. Previews for directories remain unaffected.

      • Projects and directories

        First, previews for projects are generated (anew), then these are used for the directory level.

      • Directories

        The existing previews are used.

    • View: In the list field select the desired perspective for the preview images.

      • Isometric

      • Dimetric

      • Trimetric

      • Top

      • Bottom

      • Front

      • Back

      • Right

      • Left

      • Angle entry

        Also see tabbed page View / Export -> Rotation.

    • Automatic equal alignment:

      All parts are oriented to the X axis with their longest side. If there are two "longest" sides, then one side is randomly selected.

    • Replace preview of the main folder

      This option is only active if under Mode, either Projects and directories or Directories is selected.

    • Generate preview per line

      Generate main project preview

      [Note] Note

      Either Generate preview per line or Generate main project preview can be selected in ONE run. If both options are needed, perform the generation separately for each option.

If all settings are made, the please click the OK button.

[Warning] Warning

When creating a new preview image, the existing is overwritten.

If the new preview image is not displayed at once, first go one level higher and then return to the project again.

In any case the created (or changed) preview images are displayed after restarting PARTdataManager.

5.8.2.1.14.3.1.2.2. Tabbed page "View / Export"
  • View:

    The dialog section View is deactivated by default.

    In order to use it please activate the checkbox Define cutting plane.

    In the list field, select the desired sectional plane and offset.

  • Rotation:

    The Rotation section is only active, if, on the tabbed page Default options, under Preview -> View, the selection Angle entry has been made.

  • The Export section is deactivated when Generate previews is selected.

Once all settings are made, please click OK.

A newly created preview image overwrites the old one!

If the new preview image is not displayed at once, first go one level higher and then return to the project again.

In any case the created (or changed) preview images are displayed after restarting PARTdataManager.

5.8.2.1.14.3.1.2.3. "Extended" tabbed page

Log file:

Storage location of log file for the export procedure.

The inserted default path shows to your personal user directory. Via Browse button ... you can adjust the path.

When all settings are made, please click OK.

5.8.2.1.14.3.1.3. Alternative: Create preview images externally and then import

The externally created preview images (*.png) are stored in PARTproject on directory or project level via Import.

5.8.2.1.14.3.2.  Export images

With the help of the Export images option image data is exported in the specified target directory in a certain file format via batch run. The file formats Animated GIF, BMP, GIF, JPEG,Maxwell Render, PNG, POV-Ray, QR Code and TIFF are available.

Depending on the launched CAD all native and neutral formats in addition. (For this, a batch license is required.)

Since possible errors are logged in a log file, the export capability of PARTsolutions parts can be tested in advance.

In the following the setting options are explained in detail:

  • Export mode:

    Select the Export files option.

  • Source directory

    The source directory is automatically given. Normally you don't have to change the field entries.

    Via browse button ... you can adjust the path as desired.

    • With subdirectories

      You can include the subdirectories for the generation of preview images optionally.

    • With hidden projects

      You can include hidden projects for the generation of preview images optionally.

  • Format / Version

    Select the desired format in the list field. (At certain formats the format can be specified via Version).

    The file formats Animated GIF, BMP, GIF, JPEG,Maxwell Render, PNG, POV-Ray, QR Code and TIFF are available. Depending on the launched CAD all native and neutral formats in addition. Compare formats available in PARTdataManager, under Export menu.   • Preview:

    • Background:

      Select a background from the list field for the preview image.

      Among others, you have the following available: 8.1, 9.0, Purist, blank, Metal, Wood and backgrounds close to the CAD system.

    • Mode:

      If the option Export mode, Export files is selected, then this setting is inactive.

    • View: In the list field select the desired perspective for the preview images.

      • Isometric

      • Dimetric

      • Trimetric

      • Top

      • Bottom

      • Front

      • Back

      • Right

      • Left

      • Angle entry

      Only active if the option Generate previews is selected.

5.8.2.1.14.3.2.2. Tabbed page "View / Export"
  • View:

    The dialog section View is deactivated by default.

    If needed activate the checkbox Define cutting plane.

    Select the desired sectional plane and offset in the list field.

  • Rotation:

    The dialog section Rotation is only then active, if on the tabbed page Default options under Preview -> View the selection Angle entry has been made.

  • Export:

    • Determine a target directory for the export files via browse button ....

    • With subdirectories

      You can include subdirectories for the generation of the export files optionally.

    • Process only one row per project:

      Limit the read table lines to one characteristic per project file.

    • Process value ranges:

      Project files with value ranges can be splitted by the declaration of a Stepping width. If this option is deactivated, only the currently set value (meaning one characteristic) is read.

      [Note] Note

      Do not choose a too little stepping width, because then too many characteristics are created!

    • Names for exported files

      Select the desired option for the naming convention in the list field.

      The file name of the export file is composed according to the defined syntax. You can find some examples in the list field:

      E.g. Standard name NB, followed by VIEWNAME (e.g. Front view) and the file extension SUFFIX. Of course you can adjust this composition according to your preferences.

When all settings are made, then click on OK.

After restarting PARTdataManager the created (or changed) preview images are displayed.

5.8.2.1.14.3.2.3. Tabbed page "Extended"

On the tabbed page Extended the dialog sections Log file and CSV filter are only then active by default, if the option Export files has been determined as Export mode.

  • Log file

    Storage location of the text file, where the export procedure is logged.

    The entered standard path points to your personal user directory. Via browse button ... you can adjust the path.

When all settings are made, click on OK.
