5.9.17.  Tabbed page Documents

On the tabbed page Documents, Media Variables are managed. They can be created for different purposes (PARTtemplateDesigner [3D PDF data sheet function, print projects, assistants, product configurators, PARTcommunity [e.g. tooltip information]).

Following figure shows an overview with the two menu items Templates and Variables.

  • The menu item Templates is especially used when working with the PARTtemplateDesigner. See Chapter 10, PARTtemplateDesigner - Create datasheets .

  • In the menu item Variables all available keys / Media Variables are listed (independently from the selection under Project selection).

When clicking on ... the corresponding content of variable is shown. (With Text view and HTML view for example, a respective dialog for editing.)

  • When clicking on the Derivation hierarchy is shown.

    [Note] Note

Derivation hierarchy: The necessity for derivation arises, because normally contents are set for so-called test projects and then have to be made available for the whole catalog, so that they can be used by all projects.

Here in this example, the template is only assigned to "bolt". If it shall be made available for the whole catalog, it has to be transmitted upwards to the root element.

Details on derivation hierarchy can be found under Section 5.9.17.3, “Transmit variable properties - Derivation hierarchy ”.

  • On the right, on the tabbed pages Selection and Search, you can filter the displayed variables for a better overview; furthermore specify for which language or role editing shall be applied.
