3.2.4. Define variables in the Variable Manager

Create the needed variables with their respective values. You can find them above in the dimensioning diagram and table.

  1. Name: In the Name field, enter the variable name.

    [Note] Note
    • To keep equations concise, Variable names should be preferably short. The maximum length of a variable is 10 characters.

    • Umlauts (ö,ä,ü) and special characters are not to be used!

    • Capital letters must be used. I.e., if you wrote a capital “L“ as well as a small “l” within your variable templates, you have to distinguish them as e.g. “L1“ and “L2“!

  2. Description: As the variable name is limited to 10 characters, you can add a brief Description in the respective field.

--> This eases a later identification.

  3. Mode:

    • Designer mode

If no Value ranges and no Attribute algorithms and no specific settings such as Identification type shall be set, you can model a part completely in the Designer mode.

All data is saved in the 3db file in this mode.

    • Table mode

Table mode is required, in order to create Table, Value ranges and Attribute algorithms.

All data is saved in the tab/tac file in this mode.

    • Dual mode

      Designer mode + Table mode

If variables had been created only in the Designer mode initially (just to use them for a quick creation of the 3D model), later it is necessary to save them in the tab/tac file, in order to link them with the table and fill them dynamically.

If at first only the table is created, it is sufficient to save the variables in the Table mode. Later those variables have to be saved in the Designer mode in addition, which are required for the creation of the model (in the sketcher).

Therefor save the variables in the Dual mode. Then they are saved both in the 3db file and in the tab/tac file.

You can change the Mode anytime, when selecting a variable, changing the mode in the list field and clicking on Commit.

Detailed information on this can be found under Section 6.8.4, “ Designer mode | Table mode | Dual mode ”.

  4. Equation: Enter a variable value (e.g. 4.6 for the variable DA).

Assign a certain Value (from the table) to the variable or predicate the content on other variables (2*D1, D1+D2, etc.).

    [Note] Note

Decimal values have to be written with dot (wrong: 6,5 / correct: 6.5).

  5. After all specifications concerning the variable are made, confirm with a click on Commit.

--> The variable is taken into the list above.

Change: To redefine the equation value or the description, precede as you did when you defined a variable.

    [Note] Note

For entries in the docking window Variable Manager it is decisive, which variable is the just displayed in the Name field. If the name already exists, the entries overwrite the existing ones after click on Commit. If the name does not exist yet, a new line is created.
