7.8.2. Add new variable

In order to create a new variable there are two options:

  • Add new: When clicking on the button the input fields are cleared.

  • Add copy: With the help of this function you can explicitely determine that no changes will be performed when entering the variable name, meaning that the values of another desired variable are kept.

Add new variable

  1. In the list field, choose the function Add new or click on the button once again, if it had already been chosen.

-> The input area is opened (if not yet opened).

-> The input fields are cleared.

  2. Under Name, enter the new variable's name.

    [Note] Note

Should the variable already exist, the note "Name not unique!" is displayed.

  3. Specify the variable parameters.

    [Note] Note

If Save location "Only in geometry" is selected, some parameters are not needed (at the moment) and the respective input fields are grayed out.

    [Note] Note

The variable needs a value, otherwise when testing in the dialog box QA check an error message will arise.

Select a table line. Thereby the variable automatically gets a value assigned which is displayed under Equation.

  4. Confirm your entries by clicking on the Add variable button.

-> The new variable is added to the variable list.

-> If Save location "Only in table" or "In geometry and table" is selected, the new variable is immediately displayed in the characteristic attribute table (at last position). Via Sort variables you can change the position in the characteristic attribute table (not Variable Manager) as desired.

-> If a variable is designated for the use in the geometry (meaning Save location "Only in geometry" or "In geometry and table"), then the name is marked with an asterisk as long as the variable has not been used.

Add variable copy

  1. In the table, select that variable whose values you want to use for the new variable.

  2. In the list field, select the function Add copy or once again click on the button, if it is not already chosen.

  3. Under Name, enter the variable name.

When using this variant the displayed values are kept unchanged.

  4. Confirm your input by clicking on the button Add variable.
