7.6.3.3.1.3.  Ellipses

Ellipse by point on main axis and hull edge point :

  1. Click on the sketch in order to set the midpoint of the ellipse.

  2. Define the location of the main axis with a further point.

  3. Define the edge point of the rectangle in which the ellipse is inscribed.

In the Change parameter window you can adjust the coordinates through values and/or variables.

Ellipse by point on main axis, width and height :

See Ellipse by point on main axis and hull edge point.

In the Change parameter window you can regulate the dimension of the ellipse via Width and Height (see figure at right).

Ellipse by main axis angle, width and height :

See Ellipse by point on main axis and hull edge point

In the Change parameter window you can regulate the dimension of the ellipse via width, height and the angle between the x and main axis (see figure at right).

Ellipse segment by point on main axis, start- and end point :

See Ellipse by point on main axis and hull edge point, then:

  1. Define the first midpoint line and thus the start point.

  2. Define the first midpoint line and thus the end point.

-> The segment, which can be found in clockwise direction between a) and b, remains intact!

Start and End point can be adjusted in the Change parameter window.

Ellipse segment by point on main axis, width, height, start- and end point :

See Ellipse segment by point on main axis, start- and end point.

Width and Height can also be adjusted in the Change parameter window.

Ellipse segment by point on main axis, width, height, start- and end angle:

  1. Choose center point: In the dialog, the chosen point is displayed under Center point X / Center point Y.

  2. Select point on main axis: In the dialog, the chosen point is displayed under Main axis point X / Main axis point Y.

The ellipse's orientation results from center point and main axis point.

  3. Select size Drag the ellipse with desired Width and Height.

  4. Choose start point:

  5. Select end point:

Start and End angle are in relation to the main axis. Both can be adjusted in the dialog box Change parameter. The angular orientation is counterclockwise as usual.

Ellipse segment: correct values in sketch

Ellipse segment: correct values in sketch

[Note] Note

For ellipse segments not touching their min. and max. extension (values of major and minor axis) the real values in the sketch concerning Width / Height and Start angle / End angle are not correct due to the internal method of calculation.

Internal calculation:

  1. A circular arc is created with the entered Start angle and End angle.

  2. Now the circular arc is compressed/stretched in order to bring it in the form of an ellipse.

In doing so also start angle and end angle are compressed.

So the angle originally stated is not the one shown in the sketch, Also width and hight of the ellipse segment are divergent.

See Fig. „Ellipse segment: divergent values in the sketch“. (The lines pointing out the angles with 45 degree are only for clarification.)

Ellipse segment by main axis angle, width, height, start- and end angle :

Click on the icon and follow the instructions in the status line:

  1. Choose center point: In the dialog, the chosen point is displayed under Center point X / Center point Y.

  2. Select angle of main axis: Determine the angle in relation to X axis and ellipse's main axis.

In the dialog, the chosen angle is displayed under Angle.

  3. Select size: Drag the ellipse with desired Width and Height.

  4. Choose start point:

  5. Select end point:

Start and End angle are in relation to the main axis. Both can be adjusted in the dialog box Change parameter. The angular orientation is counterclockwise as usual.

[Note] Note

The restriction mentioned under Ellipse segment by point on main axis, width, height, start- and end angle also applies here in the same way. See above note.
