5.13.10.15.1.  Connection points in general
  • Depiction of connection points

Connection points are the little green pyramids in the 3db.

  • Usage of connection points

Connection points serve several purposes. The most important for Electrical Classification are:

    • Defining position and orientation of electrical connections

    • Defining the orientation (the orientation of the part in the *.3db rarely matches the orientation in the ECAD programs)

    • Defining mounting points (for things like accessories)

  • Orientation and positioning of connection points

Electrical connections have to be oriented and positioned correctly. (Details on this are not part of this tutorial, because at this place it is expected that respective modeling knowledge is given.)

Connection points should be oriented in a way that the bottom of the pyramid shows in direction of the part to plug (e.g. cable, plug to be inserted).
