1.4.4.2.  Configure freshly installed license server

The workflow when creating a cluster with 2 or 3 servers [1 master and 1 or 2 backups] looks as follows:

Precondition: All needed FLM servers are installed without licenses. See Section 3.4, “FLM Server Installation - Request/install licenses ” in Installation Manual.

  1. Open the license server administration from any client by clicking on the button Start license server management....

-> The dialog box Connect to FLM server... is opened.

  2. Select option Configure newly installed license servers.

-> All license servers found in the net are listed.

By single click, select those servers by which you want to create a server cluster and confirm with OK.

  3. The chosen FLM servers are displayed in the dialog area Connected servers (Type and Role still on PASSIVE).

  4. Switch to the tabbed page Request licenses online.

-> The HostID of each server is already entered in the form. Details on this tabbed page can be found under Section 1.4.4.12, “ Tabbed page "Request licenses online"”.

With a click on Saving configuration... you can save a *.json file (text file), which also contains the network addresses (hostids).

  5. Click on Save in order to save the configuration of the server cluster.

  6. With Disconnect you can disconnect the connection to the cluster. -> Now the display area is empty.

  7. In order to install the licenses sent to you, again connect to the created cluster.

    Click on Connect....

-> The dialog box Connect to FLM server... is opened again.

This time select the option Configure existing license server.

  8. Select the server cluster created by you and confirm with OK.

  9. Switch to the tabbed page Licenses and click on Add file.... In the Explorer window determine the desired license file.

-> The license is displayed in the dialog.

  10. Switch to the tabbed page Security.

A password has to be set mandatorily. For this activate the option Activate server password. (A password assignment can also happen before when looking up the hostids.)

Enter a password and confirm by clicking on Activate password.

    [Note] Note

The person managing the licenses does not necessarily need admin access to the license server. For him knowing the password is sufficient - after initial assignment.

  11. Click on Save.

-> After entering the password again the display under Type / Role changes to MASTER / BACKUP.

  12. Switch to the tabbed page Licenses.

If everything is on green all clients are fully operational.
