1.2.2.1.  Basic setup via wizard

  1. Start PARTdataCenter and click on PLM Synchro.

    -> The PLM Synchro Wizard is opened.

    This wizard guides you through the PLM Synchro setup process.

  2. Project

    Choose the desired Project path via search button ....

    [Note] Note

    The path will be shown on the start screen under Recent projects, so that the process can be called anytime later again.

    Click on Next>.

  3. Data source

    Determine the Data source.

    You can create the process File based or PDM based.

    • File based

      Choose the path to Source directory via search button ....

      (The interface PdmProxyFSOPdmIfaceC is automatically used.)

    • PDM based

      In the list field, select the desired interface and with the search button ..., choose the Download folder.

      The PDM interface can be configured directly from the Wizard.

      Hereto click on .

      -> PARTadmin is opened and the respective block in the configuration file is already preselected.

    Click on Next>.

  4. Query

    Click on Build... in order to create a query.

    Example: Document name LIKE *

    • Simply example with only on single condition:

      In order to import all source files, for example, choose the following setting:

      Property Operator Value
      Document name LIKE *

      "Document name like anything"

      Confirm with OK.

      Result:

      Click on Next>.

    • Complex example with a combination of queries

      When clicking on the respective icon, you can create several queries:

      • Add a new, separate query. Multiple queries can be used to ease the load on the PDM system

        Parts fulfilling the condition of the respective query are imported.

      • Remove the query

      • Add a new group. Groups must contain at least two conditions

        Select AND or OR as logical link between the group's single items.

        • AND: In this group all single conditions have to be fulfilled.

        • OR: In this group it is sufficient if only one single condition is fulfilled.

      [Note] Note

      Each entry (regardless of whether single entry or group ) is taken as separate query. Parts fulfilling the condition of the respective query are imported.

      The following example shows two queries:

      Query No. 1: All parts with file extension *.sldprt are imported. Conditions of query 2 are not considered here.

      Query No. 2: All parts created between 10/05/2017 and 10/10/2017, are imported. The condition of query 1 is not considered here. Query 2 also imports parts with file extension .sldasm in this example.

      Also have a look on the Templates....

      With Article assignment (user defined) you can automatically create x queries in order to query all documents between 01.01. and 01.06 in steps of 30 days, for example.

      Click on Next>.

  5. Filter

    There are the two filter modes Exclude and Include:

    • Exclude (Default)

      Exclusion of all activated items

      By default, no options are activated. That means all attributes are imported.

    • Include

      Inclusion of all activated items

    The filter can be used both for filtering CAD models and for filtering meta data:

    • Filtering CAD models

      • Children: Herewith assembly parts can be included or excluded

      • Instances

    • Filtering meta data

      • Document path

      • Creation date

      • Modification date

      • Release date

      • etc.

      Meta data are always displayed in the characteristic attribute table of PARTdataManager.

      Click on Next>.

  6. Conversion

    Under Input, determine from which CAD input data are, under Output, whether conversion is to PARTjava (with or without Capvidia) or to STL. When using distributed services, determine the Destination directory.

    • Conversion

      • Input: In the list field, select the respective CAD system

      • Output: In the list field, select the desired output format

        • PARTjava (with topology [CAPVIDIA]) :

          [Note] Note

          This list item is only displayed if the respective CADENAS license is available.

          Make sure that the respective CAPVIDIA license is also available and CAPVIDIA is completely set-up (see Section 1.2.4, “Running PLMsynchro with CAPVIDIA”).

        • PARTjava (with suboptimal topology [PARASOLID]) :

        • STL:

    • Destination directory

      Via browse button ..., select the target directory.

      [Note] Note

      When using distributed services the path entered under Destination directory has to be reachable from every client.

      If locally executed, at the best, leave the entered default path.

    Click on Next>.

  7. Export

    Determine catalog name and whether preview images shall be generated.

    • Generate preview: If preview images shall be automatically created, activate the check box.

      In the pipeline you can make specific adaptions. On this see Section 1.2.2.2, “Distributed services”.

    • Catalog name: Determine catalog or directory as destination for imported parts.

      1. Click on the search button ....

        -> The respective dialog box is opened.

      2. Select desired catalog or directory.

      3. Optionally, you can create a new catalog or directory.

        1. Click on New directory.

        2. Enter Last name (internally) and Description (display name in PARTdataManager).

        3. Confirm with OK.

      4. Confirm with OK.

      Click on Next>.

  8. Summary

    In the summary, check if all settings have been made correctly.

    When clicking on Save, the summary is saved as text file.

  9. Finish

    When clicking on Finish, the wizard is finished and the process view with pipeline is displayed in PARTdataCenter.

  10. Before starting the PLM Synchro process, please make sure that the path of the exe file of the used CAD system is entered under configuration file pcadmanager.cfg -> block iface.<cadname> -> key Command_0.

  11. Now you can click on the start button in order to execute the PLM Synchro process.

    The process can be paused or stopped anytime.

    In the Dashboard, you can see detailed information on all processes (finished, cancelled, running or failed). See Section 1.2.2.2.3, “Dashboard”.

  12. Result

    Open PARTdataManager. In the Part view, under Structure -> Catalogs, now your catalog created by PLM Synchro is displayed.

    Open a part in the Part view.

    Meta data have been transferred to the characteristic attribute table.

    Under Topology information the respective information is displayed.

If problems arise, you will be informed via docking window Messages.

In PARTdataCenter -> Catalog view, via context menu command under Workspace -> Processes -> Add PLM process, you can open the Wizard window anytime.

For an existing process you can call the Wizard with the Edit PLM Synchro process command.
