3.1.6.4.4.2. Define search part / Settings

In the following the setting options and functions in the Geometric search (3D) dialog box are explained:

3.1.6.4.4.2.1.  Define search part

You can select a search part from any catalog [Projects tabbed page] or load any geometry from your computer (neutral format or CAD format) [3D files] .

Determine the search part on the left side in the History section.

3.1.6.4.4.2.1.1.  Select project

Select the Projects tabbed page.

The lastly loaded parts are displayed under History -> Projects. You just have to select it. -> The part will then be displayed on the right side under Preview.

If the needed search part is not yet displayed in the History section, then at first you have to load it in the Part view or you perform a Geometric Search (3D) via context menu command:

  • You can start a geometric search via context menu command Geometrical search for this part of each result part. Afterwards it is also listed under History.

    [Note] Note

When clicking on New tab + the search is performed on a new tabbed page, otherwise on the currently opened.

  • You can also find the context menu command Geometrical search for this part in the directory structure of the following tabbed pages: Catalogs, Classes, Favorites, History and Analyses.

Example: "Geometrical search for this part" on the "Catalogs" tabbed page

Example: "Geometrical search for this part" on the "Catalogs" tabbed page

    [Note] Note

When clicking on New tab + the search is performed on a new tabbed page, otherwise on the currently opened.

  • Furthermore you can find the context menu command Geometrical search for this part in the Part view, in the Links dialog box.

3.1.6.4.4.2.1.2.  Select 3D file

You can use any 3D file as search part:

  • When clicking on Geometry from CAD, part or assembly selected in the CAD is loaded into the dialog box for the search.

  • When clicking on Load geometry, an Explorer window opens, where you can browse to the desired geometry.

In the following this variant is described in detail:

  1. In the History section select the 3D files tabbed page.

  2. In the history select the desired file or load a new geometry via click on Load geometry.

-> On the right side under Preview the respective 3D preview is displayed.

    Load geometry:

    1. Click on the button.

      -> An Explorer window opens.

    2. Browse to the desired file.

A number of formats can be opened: [47]

      • PS3-V2 3D (*.ps3)

      • PartJava 3D (*.zjv)

      • Pro/Engineer Wildfire version 3 32 Assembly (*.asm)

      • Pro/Engineer Wildfire version 3 32 Part (*.prt)

      • Pro/Engineer Wildfire version 3 32 UDF (*.gph)

      • SAT ascii 3D (*.sat)

      • STEP (*.step, *.stp)

      • SolidDesigner PKG File (*.pkg)

      • SolidDesigner PKG/STL File (*.stl)

      • Solidworks 2010 (*.sldprt, *.sldasm)

      • U3D (*.u3d)

      • *.zjv

      [Note] Note

Make sure that when selecting CAD formats, the CAD application has been started.

    3. If there is an ambiguity for a file extension, an additional dialog box appears.

Ambiguities are possible for a file extension such as .prt for example, which is used by Creo Elements and NX as well, furthermore for several versions of a CAD system.

In the list field select the desired system and the desired version.

    4. Then the dialog box Selection for unit opens.

In the list field, select the correct unit: mm, cm, dm , m, INCH, FEET, INCH/10, INCH/100
