3.1.2.1.2.3. Export 2D formats

The following 2D CAD formats and 2D system neutral formats are available:

After the export, the file can only be opened from your CAD system and is available for further editing.

3.1.2.1.2.3.1. "Views" tabbed page

"Views" tabbed page

"Views" tabbed page

  • Detailed information on the Shortened view option is found under Section 3.1.1.11.3.1.4, “ Alternative 2D size Optimize drawing view on paper size / ”.

  • Source:

You can export all listed views or only the selected ones. Choose a mode:

    • Active window (2D-View)

    • Active 2D derivation (...)

    • All windows (everything, what is listed under Views)

    • All 2D derivations (listed under Views)

    • all technical views

    • Selected views

  • Views:

    • Active window (2D-View)

    • Active 2D derivation (...)

    • Window (2D-View)

    • Window (Technical view (2D))

    • Various 2D derivations such as "3 views + isometric drawing in frame (DIN)" or "Right" for example

If under Source the option Selected views has been selected, you can activate the desired views via checkbox under Views.

You can find detailed information on the individual Views under Section 3.1.1.11.3.1, “ "2D view" dialog box ”.

3.1.2.1.2.3.2. Tabbed page "Filter" - Unit conversion

The following two figures show the default case: No unit conversion is processed during the export. The dimensioning values are identic in the 2D derivation of PARTdataManager and 2D CAD system.

Unit 1 in PARTdataManager

Unit 1 in PARTdataManager

Unit 1 in 2D CAD

Unit 1 in 2D CAD

On the tabbed page Filter you have the following options available in the list field:

  • no conversion

  • mm

By the unit conversion from Inch to mm the value becomes 25.4 times greater.

  • cm

  • m

  • Inch

By the unit conversion from Inch to mm the value becomes 25.4 times smaller.

3.1.2.1.2.3.3. "Layers" and "Export options" tabbed page - AutoCAD DWG 2D

[Note] Note
  • When exporting into the dwg file, the information of the tabbed page Layers is stored in the file.

Example: "Thick lines" are mapped to layer "AM_0" and are stored in the dwg file in yellow.

Example: "Thick lines" are mapped to layer "AM_0" and are stored in the dwg file in yellow.

If the file is imported into an existing drawing, then AutoCAD settings have priority.

Example: Mechanical-Layer-Manager: AM_0 = white. The inserted part is depicted with white "Thick lines".

Example: Mechanical-Layer-Manager: AM_0 = white. The inserted part is depicted with white "Thick lines".

If the file is opened apart, then the depiction will be with the layer color specified in the dwg file.

  • Layers not existing in AutoCAD are created according to the defaults.

  • If you want to override AutoCAD layer information, then use the tabbed page Export options.

Example: In this case the "Thick lines" are depicted in blue.

    • Insertion position: The insertion position in the CAD system can already be set in PARTsolutions - assuming your CAD system supports this function. Enter the X and Y coordinates.

    • Options:

      • Insert into AutoCAD after document creation:

      • No Attributes: ...prevents certain attributes (for example texts from PARTproject) from being transferred to the CAD system during export

      • Type of dimensions:

        • Automatic:

If a symbolic dimensioning can be created then it is used, otherwise the exploded.

        • Only symbolic dimensions:

A dimensioning created in eCAT or created in PARTdataManager before the export is detected as such.

When using this option the dimensioning is created as "real" dimensioning. After selection the respective dialog is displayed.

        • Only exploded dimensions:

Dimensioning and text are only displayed as exploded elements.

    • Line and color settings:

Per default, the settings are set to by layer. Color and line settings depend a) on the layer settings in the CAD system or b) on the settings on the tabbed page Layers. In the list fields, you can explicitly select other settings for lines and colors, which then override the layer settings.

3.1.2.1.2.3.4. "Export options" tabbed page - DWF 2D

[Note] Note
  • When exporting into the dwf file, the information of the tabbed page Layers is stored in the file.

Example: "Thick lines" are mapped to layer "AM_0" and are stored in the dwf file in yellow.

3.1.2.1.2.3.5. "EPS Drawing Options" tabbed page

During export in the EPS 2D format you have the following setting options on the EPS Drawing Options tabbed page:

"EPS Drawing Options" tabbed page

"EPS Drawing Options" tabbed page

  • Minimum size:

The page size adjusts to the bounding box of the part. Thus the input fields for Width, Height and the option Adapt to page size are inactive.

  • Width / Height:

    Setting of page size

  • Unit: mm or inch

Meaning, if for a mm part the unit inch is selected, the value becomes smaller; the opposite happens, if for an inch part the unit mm is selected.

  • Adapt to page size:

The part adjusts to the page size. (The opposite of Minimum size)

  • Scale: 1 = 100% | smaller or larger values than 1 are possible

3.1.2.1.2.3.6. "Export options" tabbed page - ME10 MI 2D

These settings affect the parts which are exported in the ME10 MI 2D format.
