3.1.3.3.1.2. Context menu commands in detail

3.1.3.3.1.2.1.  Open

...opens the next lower directory level. With objects (single parts/assemblies) the view is switched to the part view.

3.1.3.3.1.2.2.  Versions

If you want to keep the old version during the catalog installation, you can open the old versions in the submenu of Versions or add to the part comparison.

Add all versions to part compare:

-> The project versions are loaded in the Part comparison dialog.

3.1.3.3.1.2.3.  Go to class

For classified parts you can find the command Go to class in the context menu and the corresponding classes in the submenu (one or more).

By clicking on the class, the respective part is opened in the Classes tab page.

3.1.3.3.1.2.4.  Part information

Project details (made at creation or changes) (part or assembly) (storage location, name, author, etc.) can be displayed in the Part information dialog box.

3.1.3.3.1.2.5.  Release Notes

This command is available at supplier catalogs on catalog level.

3.1.3.3.1.2.6.  Search in the catalog / Search in directory

This menu item contains (maximum) the following subitems:

At the following context menu commands, at first the respective dialog box is opened. Then the search may be conducted. The directory to be searched is already set as filter (see under Search in).

3.1.3.3.1.2.7.  Part comparison

Compare parts: Load as first part; Compare parts: Load as second part; Part compare: Add part

These commands are available at project level and within the search results. Herewith you can load parts into the part comparison.

3.1.3.3.1.2.8.  Geometrical search for this part

This command is only available at project level. The geometric search is directly performed.

See Section 3.1.1.6.4.4, “ Geometric search (3D) ”.

3.1.3.3.1.2.9.  Sort by geometric similarity

The command is only available in the table.

Especially in own part catalogs, where heterogeneous parts with quite different look are collected in a classification project, sorting of the table by geometrical similarity is helpful.

  1. In the table, select a reference part.

  2. In the context menu of a line, call up the command Sort by geometric similarity.

3.1.3.3.1.2.10.  Sketch search for this part

This command is only available at project level. The view sketches are automatically created. These can be modified in the sketcher and then be used for a sketch search.

See Section 3.1.1.6.4.5.2.2, “ Create sketches automatically from 3D and modify ”.

3.1.3.3.1.2.11.  Cloud Navigation Search

This command is only available at project level. The respective part is transferred to the Cloud Navigator as root node and then directly the search method Geometric search (3D) is performed.

[Note] Note

The other searches such as Full-text search, Variables search, Sketch search (2D) and Topology search have to be performed in the dialog area of the search methods. The Color search is not available for the Cloud Navigator.

3.1.3.3.1.2.12.  Purchineering

The menu item Purchineering has the following subitems:

  • Make-or-Buy Report

  • Find suppliers

  • Cost mockup

  • Supplier branches

The calling project or directory is inserted in the respective dialog as search source.

Detailed information is found under Section 3.1.2.3.1, “ Purchineering ”.

3.1.3.3.1.2.13.  Duplicates Report

The calling project or directory is inserted in the respective dialog as search source.

Detailed information is found under Section 3.1.2.3.2, “ Duplicates Report ”.

3.1.3.3.1.2.14.  Search for unmachined parts

The calling project or directory is inserted in the respective dialog as search source.

Detailed information is found under Section 3.1.2.3.3, “ Search for unmachined parts ”.

3.1.3.3.1.2.15.  Price search...

Conduct an Internet search with price comparison.[107]

3.1.3.3.1.2.16.  Add to favorites

You can save frequently needed directories or projects on the tabbed page Favorites via context menu command Add to favorites.

You can find the context menu command Add to favorites on the tabbed pages Catalogs, Symbols, Details, Classes, History, Analyses and at search results.

Proceed as follows:

  1. Select the project or directory, which you want to add to "Favorites".

  2. Click on the context menu command Add to favorites.

  3. -> The dialog box Add to favorites opens.

    In the dialog box the already existing directory structure is displayed.

    Now you have the following options:

    • In the index tree, select the desired directory or, if needed, create further directories via Create directory button.

    • In the list field, under History, select the desired storage path.

      At each saving the path is saved as well and added to the history.[108]

  4. Finally confirm with OK.

    -> Now your selection is available on the tabbed page Favorites.

Export favorites / Import favorites

In the Favorites tab you can find the commands Export favorites and Import favorites.

Thus you can simply transfer your personal favorites onto another computer.

3.1.3.3.1.2.17.  Add to analysis...

In PARTdataManager, Part selection, you can find the Analyses tab providing the function Document scan.

Herewith you can perform two things:

  1. Check up-to-dateness of PARTsolutions parts of an assembly loaded in the CAD

  2. Analysis, which parts of an assembly are own parts and which are PARTsolutions parts

    +

    Apply Purchineering analysis functions to the result structure (plus manually added further parts as an option)

    Via Add to analysis... additional directories and projects can be involved in the analysis.

3.1.3.3.1.2.18.  Copy

Copy: ...copies the marked object.

In order to insert a copied object, open the context menu (right-click) and click on Paste.

The command is only available under Favorites and Analyses.

3.1.3.3.1.2.19.  Hide project / Hide directory

...deletes the selected project/directory from the directory tree.

Via PARTadmin (see Section 1.1.3.4.3, “ Icons and display in the index tree” in PARTsolutions / PARTcommunity4Enterprise - Administration Manual) you can include the directory/project again in the structure.

3.1.3.3.1.2.20.  Rename folder

The context menu command is only available in the Favorites or in own catalogs.

In order to rename a directory, select it and choose Rename folder from the context menu.

3.1.3.3.1.2.21.  Create new directory

The context menu command is only available under Favorites or in Own catalogs.

In order to set up a folder or a whole directory structure below the marked directory, select Create new directory from the context menu.

-> The New folder dialog box opens.

Enter the desired name and confirm with OK.

3.1.3.3.1.2.22.  Create document project

Document projects can now be created in self-created catalogs.

Document projects can be used to append supplementing information (e.g. dimensioning sheets) to a project. Common file formats for this purpose are *.html, *.pdf and *.doc.

  1. First select a directory to add the document project.

  2. Click Create document project in the context menu.

    --> The Add document window shows up.

  3. The following entries are necessary:

    Enter a name in the field Name for the project file(for internal use).

    Description: ...is displayed as the title of the document in the PARTdataManager user interface.

    Document file : Storage location of the document.

    Here exemplified "pdf". Further usual formats are e.g. "html" and "doc".

    Preview : Storage location of the preview symbol

    Open with : If the file format is not known in the system, you can define a program to be started for the document display.

    Don't forget %1 at the end of the path! (placeholder for the file)

    With English operation systems you have to use double quotes in addition. ("%1").

    If you do not want to start the default program (e.g. Internet Explorer) for a specific file type (e.g. *.html), click on the File type button. You can define the desired program in an additional window.

    You can adjust the Document types in PARTadmin as well. On this please see under Section 1.1.3.8, “ Document types ” in PARTsolutions / PARTcommunity4Enterprise - Administration Manual.

At English-language operation systems you must use quotation marks in addition ("%1").

Preview: Storage location of the preview image

Open with: If the file format is not known in the system, then you can specify a program to be started in order to display the document.

If you don't want to start the default program (e.g. Internet Explorer) at a certain file type (e.g. *.html), then click on the button File type. In another window you can specify the desired program then.
