3.1.6.4.5.2.  Example

In the following a hand wheel shall be drawn and all needed steps explained:

  1. Draw the first view on the front cube face. With click on a cube face you can turn it in the foreground anytime and then edit.

  2. Select a color.

  3. Select the circle function.

  4. Click into the center point of the drawing with the left mouse button and then drag out a black circle with pressed left mouse button.

  5. Select the erasing color.

  6. Leave the already selected circle function.

  7. Click into the center point of the drawing again and drag out a little bit smaller "white" circle with pressed mouse button.

  8. Select the color again.

  9. Select the brush.

  10. Select the line thickness 16.

  11. Draw the spokes.

  12. Click on the right cube face.

    -> The view turns in the foreground. Now draw the second sketch view.

    [Note] Note

    The more characteristic a feature is, the less sketches are needed. The hand wheel for example is so typical that actually one sketch is sufficient.

  13. Draw a second view of the hand wheel using the brush. The needed option is already selected.

  14. Close the 2D sketching dialog box with Commit or Commit and Search.

  15. Under Project selection -> Search in select the desired setting (here in the example "Current selection (DIN)").

  16. Settings:

    • Minimum similarity: Leave the default of 70%.

    • Search template: In the list field select Search by Sketch (monochrome).

  17. Click on the button Start search.

    -> The search results are listed below.

    When you move the mouse cursor over a line, different icons are displayed (context dependent):

    Open:

    The part is opened in the Part view of PARTdataManager.

    Load as first part:

    The part is added to the part comparison and furthermore marked as first part, thus is loaded into the 2D/3D comparison. The line is marked with an icon .

    Load as second part:

    The part is added to the part comparison and furthermore marked as second part, thus is loaded into the 2D/3D comparison. The line is marked with an icon .

    Add to part compare:

    The part is added to the part comparison. The line is marked with an icon .

    Export to CAD:

    The icon is only displayed at single parts (characteristics), not at part families: With click on the icon the respective part is transferred to the CAD system.

    You can find detailed information on Part comparison under Section 3.1.6.10, “ Part comparison ”.

[Note] Note

The history of created sketches is saved and displayed on the left side in the Sketch search (2D) dialog box. So you can easily later use the sketches again and - if needed - edit (adjust) before.
