3.1.6.4.4.3.  Search results

After click on Start search the search results are listed below.

3.1.6.4.4.3.1. Percentual degree of similarity

According to the degree of similarity the percentage value is colored.

  • Green: Very well

  • Yellow: Medium

  • Red: Bad

[Note] Note

The displayed percent value may slightly differ from the actual best possible value. It refers to the precalculated part. In order to ensure short calculation time at big tables not all parts are precalculated.[49]When a part is loaded the missing data is calculated on the fly, so that the depiction in 3D comparison and 2D comparison is always correct.

In order to see all available single parts (characteristics) of the family table, simply load the search part and the compare part either in the Part view or in the Part comparison.

3.1.6.4.4.3.2.  Mirrored parts

Filter mirrored parts: In the list of search results, mirrored parts are marked with an icon .

Option deactivated: Mirrored parts are not filtered, but marked with an icon.

3.1.6.4.4.3.3.  Quick compare

In the column Quick compare, you can see the proportion between search part and result part.

The Bounding Box of the search part is drawn into the 2D sketches of the result parts, so that you can see the proportion at a glance. Exact values can be found in the Size column beside.

At the search part itself the bounding box is covering exactly. At bigger or smaller search result parts it is outside or inside.

The Quick compare is not displayed by default. If you want to see it for all result parts, in the column Quick compare, activate the checkbox Show for all, otherwise you can activate the checkbox directly at desired parts.

In the 3D tooltip of the result list the bounding box of the search part is also displayed (analogously to the red bounding box in the 2D quick compare).

Under Part view -> Links the bounding box of the Quick compare is displayed as well.

3.1.6.4.4.3.4. Sorting results

The result can be sorted by different criteria (meta data) such as Preview, Catalog, Project, etc.[50] Therefor click on the column header anywhere.

Feature: At a geometric search the similarity is displayed in color with percentage values.

Possibly it makes sense only to display interesting columns and to hide all others. Open the Properties dialog box with the right mouse key over a column header.

3.1.6.4.4.3.5.  Minimum similarity

At Geometric search (3D) the minimum similarity is 90% by default. However, you can extend the search space successively by clicking on the respective button at the end of list of search results.

Should the number of displayed search results be under the set maximum number of search results, due to the requested Minimum similarity of 90%, then at the end of list of search results the button Extend search space to xy% similarity is displayed, otherwise the buttons Show more results ... and Show all results.... Whether the button is displayed, also depends on the option Maximum number of search result:[51]

In this figure the button shows the value "Extend search range to 80% similarity". The default value for minimum similarity has been 90%. Using standard settings the percent value is reduced by 10 percent points per click and the search is started again.

3.1.6.4.4.3.6. Part comparison

When moving the mouse over a result line, different buttons are displayed.

Open:

With click on the icon the part is opened in the Part view of PARTdataManager

Load as first part Load part as first part into the Part comparison (so at the same time into the 3D/2D view)
Load as second part Load part into the Part comparison (so at the same time into the 3D/2D view)
Add to part compare

You can load parts into thePart comparison

into the 3D or 2D view via icon / .
Compare to search-part

The chosen part is loaded as second part in a direct comparison to the search part.

This part is loaded in part compare As soon as a part is loaded into the part comparison the icon is displayed on the left at the beginning of the line.
Export to CAD: This icon is only displayed at single parts (characteristics), not at part families. With click on the icon the respective part is transferred to the CAD system.

For example, click on the button Compare to search-part .

-> The docking window Part comparison is opened.

Part comparison

In the Select project line section you can see the characteristic attribute table of search part and part to be compared. At both parts select the same characteristic. You can find detailed information on part comparison under Section 3.1.6.10, “ Part comparison ”.

With click on the button Export to CAD you can directly transfer the desired part to the CAD system.

[49] In own part catalogs normally each characteristic of a family table is precalculated by default.

[50] when ERP integration is used, sorting by ERP variables like material, price, etc. is also possible

[51] See Extras menu -> Preferences... -> Search dialog -> "General" tabbed page -> Setting option "Maximum number of search result".
