Our 3D CAD supplier models have been moved to 3Dfindit.com, the new visual search engine for 3D CAD, CAE & BIM models.
You can log in there with your existing account of this site.
The content remains free of charge.
In order to perform a Geometric search (3D), proceed as follows:
Limit the search at "Current selection (- Industry Standards -)"[36] and select the option "Search for parts".
Click on the link or under Add search function on the command Geometric search (3D).
-> The same-named dialog box opens.
The "Edit" button is only displayed in Admin mode. On this see under Section 1.2.5, “ Define search template ” in PARTsolutions / PARTcommunity4Enterprise - Administration Manual.
On the left side under History select the search part. (Parts which have been opened in the current session are displayed here.)
Leave Search template at Standard search. Activate the option Size-dependent search.
-> Now the Geometric search (3D) is displayed with the currently chosen parameters.
You can use the Geometric search (3D) as only method or in combination with others. Not desired methods you can either deactivate (clear checkbox) or delete (). In this example we will perform the Geometric search (3D) as only method. Enable the Full-text search. (Delete is not possible at "Full-text search".)
-> The search results are listed on the Search results tabbed page.

[a] In own part catalogs normally each characteristic of a family table is precalculated by default. The number of precalculated parts can be raised by administration anytime. See Section 1.1.3.4.5.2.2, “ Manage fingerprints ” in PARTsolutions / PARTcommunity4Enterprise - Administration Manual. |
When you move the mouse over a result line, different buttons are displayed (context dependent).
Click on the button Compare with search-part .
-> The Part comparison docking window is opened.
In the Select project line section you can see the characteristic attribute table of search part and part to be compared. At both parts select the same characteristic. You can find detailed information on part comparison under Section 3.1.1.6.10, “ Part comparison ”.
With click on the button Export to CAD you can directly transfer the desired part to the CAD system.
In the following the setting options and functions in the Geometric search (3D) dialog box are explained:
You can select a search part from any catalog [Projects tabbed page] or load any geometry from your computer (neutral format or CAD format) [3D files] .
Determine the search part on the left side in the History section.
Select the Projects tabbed page.
The lastly loaded parts are displayed under History -> Projects. You just have to select it. -> The part will then be displayed on the right side under Preview.
The "Edit" button is only displayed in Admin mode. Detailed information on editing search templates and creating own search templates is found under Section 1.2.5, “ Define search template ” in PARTsolutions / PARTcommunity4Enterprise - Administration Manual.
If the needed search part is not yet displayed in the History section, then at first you have to load it in the Part view or you perform a Geometric Search (3D) via context menu command:
You can start a geometric search via context menu command Geometrical search for this part of each result part. Afterwards it is also listed under History.
You can also find the context menu command Geometrical search for this part in the directory structure of the following tabbed pages: Catalogs, Classes, Favorites, History and Analyses.
Furthermore you can find the context menu command Geometrical search for this part in the Part view, in the Links dialog box.
You can use any 3D file as search part:
In the History section select the 3D files tabbed page.
In the history select the desired file or load a new geometry via click on Load geometry.
-> On the right side under Preview the respective 3D preview is displayed.
A number of formats can be opened: [37]
If there is an ambiguity for a file extension, an additional dialog box appears.
Ambiguities are possible for a file
extension such as .prt
for example,
which is used by Creo Elements and NX as well, furthermore for
several versions of a CAD system.
In the list field select the desired system and the desired version.
Then the dialog box Selection for unit opens.
In the list field, select the correct unit: mm, cm, dm , m, INCH, FEET, INCH/10, INCH/100
-> In the dialog box, the file is listed on the left side. On the right side a large 3D preview is displayed.
Either only search shape-dependent (checkbox off) or size-dependent in addition (checkbox on).
The button is only displayed in the Admin mode! (You can see your current status downright: User or Admin
The number of displayed search templates depends on administrative presettings.
You can find detailed information under Section 1.2.5, “ Define search template ” in PARTsolutions / PARTcommunity4Enterprise - Administration Manual.
After click on the search results are listed below.
According to the degree of similarity the percentage value is colored.
Note | |
---|---|
The percentage statement may slightly differ from the best possible value. It refers to the precalculation part which is used for the comparison. In order to ensure fast search times not all lines are precalculated.[38] When a part is loaded, then all missing data is currently calculated, so that the depiction in the 3D comparison and 2D comparison is always correct. In order to see all available single parts (characteristics) of the family table, simply load the search part and the compare part either in the Part view or in the Part comparison. |
The result can be sorted by different criteria (meta data) such as Preview, Catalog, Project, etc.[39] Therefor click on the column header anywhere.
Possibly it makes sense only to display interesting columns and to hide all others. Open the Properties dialog box with the right mouse key over a column header.
At Geometric search (3D) the minimum similarity is 90% by default. However, you can extend the search space successively by clicking on the respective button at the end of list of search results.
Should the number of displayed search results be under the set maximum number of search results, due to the requested Minimum similarity of 90%, then at the end of list of search results the button Extend search space to xy% similarity is displayed, otherwise the buttons and . Whether the button is displayed, also depends on the option Maximum number of search result:[40]
In this figure the button shows the value "Extend search range to 80% similarity". The default value for minimum similarity has been 90%. Using standard settings the percent value is reduced by 10 percent points per click and the search is started again.
[36] Selection on the "Catalogs" tabbed page.
[37] The display depends on the installed CAD systems.
[38] In own part catalogs normally all lines are precalculated.
[39] when ERP integration is used, sorting by ERP variables like material, price, etc. is also possible
[40] See Extras menu -> Preferences... -> Search dialog -> "General" tabbed page -> Setting option "Maximum number of search result".
