The design engineer which needs a standard or supplier part searches inside PARTsolutions.
During the part export from PARTsolutions to a CAD system it is asked in the background whether the part is already administered.
If yes, the part is automatically checked out via SAP CAD-Desktop, copied in the local work directory and transferred to the CAD system.

If not, the part is created in the local work directory and checked in via SAP CAD-Desktop. SAP MM gets additional information from the LinkDB and finally saves desired information in the LinkDB.
The procedure of new generation of a part is described in detail under Section 3.3.8.4, “New generation of DIS and Material”.
Versioned documents, bom lists and catalog parts are created in SAP PLM in interaction with CAD system, SAP CAD-Desktop and PARTsolutions.
The rules and rights system of PARTsolutions enables the creation of preferred rows.
Furthermore a 1:n relation between geometry file and different SAP material master data can be displayed in PARTdataManager such as for example with different stability categories or materials.
