3.3.6.1. How does the CAD <-> PARTsolutions <-> PRO.FILE connection work?

During part export from PARTsolutions to a CAD system an inquiry is sent to the PDM (PRO.FILE) at the same time: Is the respective part already inserted in the Database or not?

  • In case it is, the part is read from the PDM and copied into the "Working-Directory" of the local computer (PLM Operation "Copy File").This local copy is now transferred to the CAD.

  • In case it is not the part is created in the PARTsolutions parts pool in the "Working Directory".

Parts and documents are automatically checked in.

Specifics for PRO.FILE:

  • PRO.FILE does not allow a hierarchical file structure.

    [Note] Note

That's why all files have to be stored in a flat pool (FlatPool).

But this possibly requires an adjustment of the file name. The file name is extended by additional attributes for some standard parts (e.g. nominal thread for screws, etc.).

Furthermore the file name can be differently configured depending on the existence of ERP numbers (PARTsolutions ERP integration assumed) and the type of component (assembly, subassembly, part, subpart). Please be careful with these settings, because a wrong naming convention can result in problems later (duplicate names, not unique names, etc.). In case of doubt please discuss your settings with CADENAS Consultants.

Information on this is found under Section 2.2.2, “Set file name ("FileName" key) and pool path ("poolpath" key) ”.
