Installation and Configuration information

You must first uninstall V8.1 before you can install version 9.

Catalog installation / DATA directory
The DATA directory remains intact during deinstallation and can (but doesn't have to - see - naming rule below) be used further on with V9. Thereto we provide a migration assistant in PARTadmin (see Section 1.1.3.3.4, “ Migration ” in PARTsolutions / PARTcommunity4Enterprise - Administration Manual).
However there are still limitations:
Neither the full-text, nor the improved geometric search, are usable. Therefore the migration is mainly recommended for own part catalogs and native catalogs.

For certain parts such as bolts, nuts, rings, bearings, etc. in V9 there are intelligent placement methods available (on this compare Section 2.6.2, “ Insert 3D from the Standard and supplier parts library ” in PARTsolutions / PARTcommunity4Enterprise - User manual). However, for V8 parts these are possibly not supported (due to missing additional information, which comes along with the V9 version).

Note This subject matter is directly connected with the question, whether "old" V8 parts, which are already available in the pool or PDM system, shall be used further on (despite changing to V9) or whether already existing V8 parts shall be newly created with V9. Not until this is the case full V9 functions are available for ALL parts.
The new generation of V8 parts is realized via the naming rule. On this see Section 2.2.2.2, “File name: set generation options ("FileName" key) ” in PARTsolutions / PARTcommunity4Enterprise - Administration Manual.
Information on the placement dialog in relation to V8 or V9 parts is found under Section 2.2.3, “Intelligent placement for standard parts” in PARTsolutions / PARTcommunity4Enterprise - Administration Manual.
That's why, for the catalogs that we deliver, we recommend to update them to the latest state via catalog DVDs or via PARTadmin > Category > Catalog update.

In the standard catalogs, new parts are created in the CAD pool.
The names of all standard parts after transfer into the CAD have changed. The reason is that the geometries have been drastically changed so that the Level of Detail becomes possible. This is an important feature for many customers.
There are ways to get back the old behavior with a configuration.

Insert CAD company parts in native CAD format in PARTsolutions
When you have inserted CAD company parts with V8.1 in CAD format to PARTsolutions "User library",[11] please contact our Support before doing an update. In order to guarantee compatibility, special settings must be made.
[11] In V9 the respective menu command is "User library -> Insert"
In V8.1 the respective menu command was "Own parts library -> Insert".
