CAD publications are a further step for an intelligent CAD part.

Published elements

  • ...automate the take-over of a construction change, by making it easier for used or worked with parts to be exchanged.

  • ...allow for fast and interactive experimenting and creating through feasibility studies

  • ...improve simplification and standardization

  • ...make a CAD part more intelligent while reducing costs for construction changes

  • ...produce ca. 5% overtime per created part with eCATALOGsolutions, however reduce the amount of work for the end user by A LOT

The following CAD systems already support the CAD publications, however have a different name for the function:

Aside from the adjustment of the assemblies in the coordinate system, the positioning of assemblies gains importance, that is to say, every assembly has the benefit that it can be positioned in relation to its environmental construction.

In order to exchange an assembly with a similar one, the same reference element with the same name must be available (see figure).

Only then, can the exchange and the automatic alignment of two geometrically and functionally similar assemblies in the environmental construction and the automatic alignment of the assembly which is dependent on the other assemblies, be possible.

A part can contain several fixture positions (see figure), therefore there are different references offered on the assembly that can be used as needed.

The following can be used as "published elements":

  • Points, planes, axes,

  • Sketches, solid edges, solid areas, axes systems (to be used only with specific CAD systems which support these elements as publications, such as for example CATIA V5)

The fixation of the references must make sure that the used references are similar under functionally similar assemblies. Functionally similar assemblies receive the same publications.

Abbreviations, naming conventions (oriented after DIN 32869), and type recognitions for references

It is useful to create all publications of parts of catalogs following a predefined default in order to continually use naming conventions.

The abbreviations (A1, A2, P1, P2, P3……F1, F2,…etc.) are given as default names.

P(x) Point (for example, fastening flange)
K(x) Edge (for example, assembly edge)
A(x) Axis (for example, rotation axes, bolt center, pins)
F(x) Face (for example, bolt bearing face)

(x) = running sequence number

You must make sure that for the same "function areas" in the CAD parts, the same publication names be given if anyhow possible.

Using the configuration file class_mod.cfg the identifications can be individually adjusted per mapping, as shown in the following table.

All data created with eCATALOGsolutions (including publications) can only be viewed and changed within Editor itself. The CAD user eventually receives the finished 3D (native) model without insight into the authoring sources. Through this the intelligence of the parts is warranted and the innovation remains secure.
