9.3.  Project types

Three project types are differentiated between that are displayed in the part tree in the PARTdataManager with different symbols and possible with respective abbreviations in their name.

  • Assembly configuration (_asmcfg.prj)

    The actual assembly.

    This is also the basis for templates and Assembly-Table-Project.[53]

  • Assembly template / template (_asmsbl.prj)

    A very specific characteristic of a configuration is stored in the template which is automatically generated.

    Based on one configuration, as many templates as desired can be saved.

  • Assembly-Table-Projects (_asmtab.prj)

    These are fully configured.

    The selection of parts and characteristics (in other words the entire control) takes place in the PARTdataManager standard interface via the table and list view.

    See Section 9.8, “Example 2 - Create an Assembly-Table-Project ”.

    [Note] Note

    The Assembly-Table-Project is the most important assembly project type for the user. Today, nearly all CADENAS catalogs for standard assemblies use this project type. The operation of this assembly type corresponds to that of single parts. Functions of single parts in the assembly are controlled in the same table.

The following table explains, what is typical for each Assembly-type.

Assembly configuration Template Assembly-Table-Project

Free configuration in the PARTdataManager is possible in the areas Configurator and Assembly .

Template will be loaded with a certain line

Choice only in relation to the table as with single parts

No automatic generation Automatic generation Automatic generation + special choice via table
Knowledge of module "Configurator" is necessary Knowledge of module "Configurator" is necessary

Knowledge of configurator interface is not necessary

--> Thus simple handling

[Note] Note

During project application, select clear project names:

*_asmcfg.prj => Assembly configuration
*_asmtpl.prj => Assembly configuration / assembly template
*_asmtab.prj => Assembly table

The following sections explain how the different assembly types are presented in the PARTdataManager.

[53] Also for the product configurator is the configuration basic. See Chapter 11, Interactive Product Configurator .
