3.1.6.4.10.3.  Topology search - Settings in detail

3.1.6.4.10.3.1.  Size

Search for greatest, middle and smallest extension of a part.

Or search for the extension in the direction of X-, Y and Z axis.

Same object - other orientation in direction of X and Y axis.

Same object - other orientation in direction of X and Y axis.

3.1.6.4.10.3.2.  Area/Volume

Perform this search with relatively high tolerance, since values can differ quite a bit due to different quality (triangulation) of parts to compare.

3.1.6.4.10.3.3.  Symmetry

With this function you can search for symmetries: Once for the type and in the list field with the possibility of differentiation according to "symmetric", "nearly symmetric" and "not symmetric".

  • Axis symmetry

    Example:

    Axis symmetry 3D

    Axis symmetry 3D

    Axis symmetry 2D

    Axis symmetry 2D

  • Rotation symmetry

    Example:

    Rotation symmetry 3D

    Rotation symmetry 3D

    Rotation symmetry 2D

    Rotation symmetry 2D

  • Plane symmetry

    Example:

    Plane symmetry 3D

    Plane symmetry 3D

    Plane symmetry 2D

    Plane symmetry 2D

3.1.6.4.10.3.4.  Distances

With this function you can search for distances between planes within a part.

3.1.6.4.10.3.5.  Angle

With this function you can search for angles between two planes. Decisive is always the inner angle.

Example: Hexagon nut 3D

Example: Hexagon nut 3D

Example: Hexagon nut 2D

Example: Hexagon nut 2D

3.1.6.4.10.3.6.  Cylinder

With this function you can search for inner and outer cylinders.

Example: Inner cylinder

Example: Inner cylinder

Example: Outer cylinder

Example: Outer cylinder

3.1.6.4.10.3.7.  Cone

With this function you can search for inner and outer cones. In the following you see the single parameters with the help of two little examples:

  • Outer cone

    Outer cone 3D

    Outer cone 3D

    Outer cone 2D

    Outer cone 2D

  • Inner cone

    Inner cone 3D

    Inner cone 3D

    Inner cone 2D

    Inner cone 2D

3.1.6.4.10.3.8.  Hole

With this function you can search for holes. Amount, dimension and type can be specified.

  • Depth / Diameter

  • Hole type:

    • Blind hole

    • Through-hole

  • Start / End type of counterbore:

    No counterbore

    No counterbore

    Counterbore for countersunk bolts

    Counterbore for countersunk bolts

    Counterbore for cylinder head bolts

    Counterbore for cylinder head bolts

3.1.6.4.10.3.9.  Elongated Cylinder

With this function you can search for elongated cylinders.

3.1.6.4.10.3.10.  Circular pattern

With this function you can search for circular patterns.

  • Pattern diameter / Hole diameter

  • Hole depth:

  • Number of patterns: Number of patterns in the searched part

  • Angle:

Angle between two adjacent pattern elements (in the above example 45°, which results in 8 positions in a complete pattern)

    [Note] Note

The angle specification refers to an angle between two adjacent elements in a complete pattern. In the following figure, nevertheless, in any case the angle is 45°.

  • Hole type:

    • Blind hole

    • Through-hole

  • Start / End type of counterbore:

    No counterbore

    No counterbore

    Counterbore for countersunk bolts

    Counterbore for countersunk bolts

    Counterbore for cylinder head bolts

    Counterbore for cylinder head bolts

3.1.6.4.10.3.11.  Linear pattern

With this function you can search for linear patterns.

  • Number of patterns: Number of patterns in the searched part

  • Amount Width / Amount Hight: Number of pattern elements in width and height

    Distance X / Distance Y:

Distance between two pattern elements in direction of X and Y axis

Here exemplarily: Width = 10 elements, hight = 3 elements

Here exemplarily: Width = 10 elements, hight = 3 elements

  • Hole depth:

  • Arrangement

    • Straight

      Arrangement: Straight

      Arrangement: Straight

    • Staggered

      Arrangement: Staggered

      Arrangement: Staggered

      [Note] Note

For staggered patterns not the absolute distance from hole center to hole center is decisive, but the distance in direction of X and Y axis.

  • Start / End type of counterbore:

    No counterbore

    No counterbore

    Counterbore for countersunk bolts

    Counterbore for countersunk bolts

    Counterbore for cylinder head bolts

3.1.6.4.10.3.12.  Slot pattern

With this function you can search for slot patterns.

Here exemplarily: Width = 6 elements, height = 4 elements

  • Number of patterns: Number of patterns in the searched part

  • Amount Width / Amount Hight: Number of pattern elements in width and height

    Distance X / Distance Y:

Distance between two pattern elements in direction of X and Y axis

  • Hole length / Hole width: Length and width of a single slotted hole

      [Note] Note

For staggered patterns not the absolute distance from hole center to hole center is decisive, but the distance in direction of X and Y axis.
