2.6.1.  Insert model (3D) from the Standard and supplier parts library

The following describes how you can insert single 3D parts from the Standard and supplier parts library into your 3D CAD system.

[Note] Note

This is the description of the default procedure.

For some CAD systems you can find further information in the CAD specific chapter.

  1. In the PARTsolutions menu, click on Insert model .

-> The display switches to PARTdataManager.

  2. In the Part selection choose the desired parts.[10]

Determine the desired characteristic in the Part view.

  3. Click on .[11]-> The display returns to the CAD system.

If you performed a search, you can directly export from the search results.

-> The view returns to the CAD system again.

  4. In the CAD system, the PARTsolutions placement dialog appears.

    [Note] Note

The placement dialog box is available for the interfaces of Inventor, Creo Elements/Pro | Creo Parametric, Solid Edge, SolidWorks and NX. In the other CAD systems the placement is performed by using the default methods.

    [Note] Note

The procedure in "Seamless" is similar.

Für Details siehe Section 2.6.4, “Seamless integration of the PARTsolutions library in CAD ”.

The placement methods available in particular depend on the part type.

Not all parts in the standard catalog have all the attributes needed for additional PARTsolutions intelligent placement methods. The method "Default placement" is always available. Currently the CAD interfaces enable the additional intelligent placement methods for rotationally symmetric parts such as bolts, nuts, rings and bearings for example.

The following figure gives an overview about the parts which enable intelligent placement in addition.

    Select a placement method:

    1. CAD system (Default CAD placement method)

This placement method is always available.

    2. In Cylinder (PARTsolutions placement method)

e.g. for placement of bolts, but also for bearing on shafts

    3. On surface (PARTsolutions placement method)

    4. Touching Surfaces (PARTsolutions placement method)

e.g. for placement of countersunk screws

    [Note] Note

For not available placement methods the respective button is deactivated. Especially at connection components there are several methods available.

-> Now in the placement dialog the following buttons are shown.

Multiple placement (and leave dialog opened)
    Single placement (and close dialog)
    Close dialog box (without placement)

    1. Select method: before selection

    1. Select method: before selection

    1. Select method: after selection with the checkbox "Repeating"

    1. Select method: after selection with the checkbox "Repeating"

The activation of the Repeating checkbox enables the repeated placement in the CAD without having to use the Repeat [12] button.

[10] A detailed description of PARTdataManager can be found under Section 3.1, “ PARTdataManager ”.

[11] You can also export the part via "Export in file". More detailed information can be found under Section 3.1.9, “ Export into different file formats (without PARTsolutions interface) ”.

[12] At certain CAD systems the function is available for all placement methods, at others only for the Standard CAD placement method. If the function is not available, then the checkbox is grayed out.
