3.1.1.6.4.1.  Select / combine search methods

You can use only one certain search method or combine them.[31] [32]

The Full-text search is opened and activated at program start by default. Just enter a search term and click on Start search.

Search methods

The following search methods are available:

How you can add a search method?

Click on the desired search method link or on Add search function and then on the respective context menu command.

-> The respective dialog box opens.

After you have done the settings in the dialog box the search method is displayed with the specific, set parameters, so that you can always keep in view the settings.

In this exemplary figure all search methods have been already used and thus are listed. The geometric search and the topology search are activated and will be used for the next search run.

How to remove a search method from the list?

Click on the "remove" icon .

How to deactivate a search method for the next search run?

Clear the checkbox .

Manual search of directories

Alternatively you can manually search the directories.

For example, on the tabbed page Part selection select the subtitem Catalogs or Classifications and search the respective directory structure for the desired part.

You can find detailed information on the single tabbed pages under Section 3.1.1.6.4.9, “ Part selection via index tree ”.

When which method?

Why so many different methods and when to use which?

  • If there is no textual information available (e.g. for own parts), then geometric search methods can be used.

  • If parts have no geometry (e.g. parts without CAD geometry, electronic parts), textual search methods or classifications can be used.

  • If geometric identic parts differ in various things such as material, surface, release status, preferred status, etc.) textual information from third party systems can be used.[33]

  • If no reference part for the geometric search exists, then the sketch or topology search can be used in a first step and possibly then in a second step the geometric 3D search.

  • If there is no adequate search term known (e.g. no special knowledge, different supplier labels for one and the same), then the geometric 3D search can be used.

[31] only Sketch search (2D) and Geometric search (3D) cannot be combined

[32] Full-text search und Variables search are always available. The other search methods require the license "CNS200x*PSADDONS*COMPLEXSEARCH".

Information how to check whether a certain license is available, can be found underSection 6.5.1, “ License information ”.
