3.1.5.4. Placing method for dockings

The user interface is built from flexible docking windows, which can freely be scaled and positioned.

In the following the placing method is described in detail.

There are two different cases:

  • Placing a docking with its full width above or below all other dockings:

    When moving a docking at a position above or below of all other dockings then a single positioning icon is displayed.

    When moving the mouse (the docking) over the area highlighted in blue and then releasing the mouse key the docking is placed accordingly.

  • Placing a docking in relation to another docking

    When moving a docking with pressed mouse button over another docking, the positioning cross is displayed.

    Depending on the exact position of the cursor (center, top, bottom, left, right) the docking is placed in the desired area.

The placing method shall be explained with the help of two little examples.

  1. Positioning above all other dockings.

    1. Click on the tab of the docking to be moved.

    2. Draw the docking with pressed mouse button to a position above all other dockings.

      -> The positioning icon is displayed.

    3. Draw the mouse (the docking) over the area highlighted in blue.

    4. Release the mouse key.

  2. Positioning in relation to another docking

    1. Click on the tab of the docking to be moved.

    2. Draw the docking with pressed mouse key over another docking where you want to orient for an exact positioning.

      -> A positioning cross is displayed.

    3. Move the cursor over the cross.

      Depending on the exact position of the cursor (center, top, bottom, left, right) the target area is marked with transparent blue.

      • Example 1: The cursor is over the central cross area. -> The whole target docking area is marked with transparent blue. When releasing the mouse key the docking window to be positioned is placed in the marked docking area with its own tab.

      • Example 2: The cursor is over the right cross area. -> The right side of the target docking area is marked with transparent blue. When releasing the mouse key the docking window to be positioned is placed in a new docking area on the right side of the marked one.

If there are several tabs in one docking area, you can move them with pressed mouse key to the desired position left or right.

If you want to change the border between docking areas, move the cursor over it. -> Then the respective cursor icon shows up. Now you can shift the border (adjust the size) with pressed mouse key.
