  • Display index (earlier name was "Search index") -> Update

After selecting this command, the selected directory (folder), including all subfolders, will be searched and the display index updated.

The display index is needed for saving or displaying the directory structure. It has to be available in order for the other indices to be created and the catalog to be displayed in PARTdataManager. Other indices are optional for PARTdataManager functionality.

The function of this command is according to the Update search index button command. See Section 1.1.3.4.4.2, “ Update search index ”.

  • Display index (earlier name was "Search index") -> Add missing directories to the display index

This function only adds missing directories to the index, which is found directly below the selected one. If directories are missing then which are lower in the hierarchy, they are not taken into the index.

For changes, you must use Update.

  • Create full-text search index (Lucene index) / Create all catalog search indexes / Create not existing catalog search indexes

On the topmost catalog level the full-text search index can be completely created for all catalogs or only updated for still missing directories and projects.

For all top level directories (norm, festo, etc.) the full-text search index can be created for that single catalog.

During full-text search index updates (=lucene index updates) you don't have to close running applications.

You can find notes concerning the relation between index version and software version and concerning update/downgrade under Section 1.1.3.4.5.2.1, “Matrix: Software and Lucene index version”.

  • Create LinkDB search index / Create all LinkDB search indexes / Create not existing LinkDB search index / Update LinkDB search indexes (on project level)

    [Note] Note

Please not, that the LinkDB search index has to be created anew, when adding projects to the link database or changing role settings.[a]

[a] In productive operation, normally this will happen in the course of nightly updates (see Section 5.13.3.3, “Automated and cyclical update of data ”).

You can find the respective command in PARTadmin -> Index administration -> Context menu command of catalog.

The blue database icon shows that a LinkDB index is available, otherwise it is grayed out.

The blue database icon shows that a LinkDB index is available, otherwise it is grayed out.

The LinkDB search index contains all role information.

When roles changed, in PARTadmin, a message appears pointing out that the LinkDB search index has to be updated.

The LinkDB search index has to be updated for all used catalogs.

Relevant role changes are: (see Registerseite Allgemein)

    • Preferred ranges

    • Filter condition for datasets

    • Viewing condition for table rows

    • Columns to be displayed

    • Columns not to be displayed (export only)

    • Display condition for parts selection

In PARTdataManager the message Missing search indexes is displayed.

  • Geometrical search index / Geometrical search index -> Create/Update

This function is similar to Manage fingerprints.

You are only able to generate here.

A statistic analysis is only shown in Manage fingerprints. This may take a lot of time for large catalogs.

Especially for own parts, the geometrical search index can be generated afterwards. (For manufacturer catalogs the geometric search index is already pre-generated.)

Icons show the status of the current index:

    Legend

Open the index tree at the desired position in order to see the icons.

    Geometric search index is outdated:

Disadvantages at an deprecated index are a) less search speed and b) less result quality.

In order to update switch into the category Migration.

Category -> Catalog update -> Migration

Category -> Catalog update -> Migration

    See Section 1.1.3.3.4, “ Migration ”.

    Geometric search index available:

you have optimal search speed and result quality.

    Geometric search index is missing:

Use the context menu command Create geometric search index.

By clicking on the command Create geometric search index the settings dialog opens.

Geometric search index settings Search index, geometricSettings

    Geometric search index settings

    [Note] Note

Default setting is 100%, because this function is primarily used for own parts catalogs.

When you create the geometric search index for standard or supplier catalogs, then please change the value to 1 % !

    • Minimum number of lines to index per table

      • Percentual fraction

A high percentual value lengthens calculation time for some large tables.

      • Absolute fraction

So that for small tables there are enough rows indexed, enter the absolute number.

Calculation example 1: 10 rows, Percentual fraction: 10, Absolute fraction: 3 -> 3 rows are created

Calculation example 2: 10 rows, Percentual fraction: 20, Absolute fraction: 1 -> 2 rows are created

Always the larger of the two values is used. The time for the generation and the amount of storage space needed for the fingerprints on the hard drive is approximately proportional to the number of rows.

    • Geometric fingerprints

      • Update

If some new assemblies are added and no new parts have been changed, an Update suffices.

In the fingerprints the date of change is saved so that the fingerprint can be overwritten when the project has been changed. In other words it is not necessary to recreate the fingerprints.

      • Create from scratch

For a CIP installation is not necessary to create the geometric fingerprints again. These are always available with catalogs delivered by CADENAS.

Use this command if you want to index your own parts.

      • Always recreate fingerprints for outdated algorithms

If there are changes concerning an algorithm and this option is activated, then the fingerprints for this algorithm are created anew. If this option is deactivated, then the search works, however possible enhancements are missing.

  • Check link index

If there are errors when performing the command Check link index, a message box appears with the question, whether the Link index shall be created anew.

The Link index is part of the Display index. If the link index is faulty (recognizable by missing search results for example), the Display index could be generated for all catalogs as well. However that would need considerably more time than only updating the Link index. This takes only a few minutes, even at a hundred catalogs.

  • Add to favorites:

All favorites are available in the PARTdataManager on the Favorites tabbed page.

  • Cleanup versions

Corresponds to the function with the same name under the menu point Commands (see Section 1.1.3.4.4.3, “ Cleanup versions ”).

  • Create CIP-File:

The catalog status is packed into a CIP file as it is with an index (in case available).

    [Note] Note

In PARTproject under -> Project selection -> context menu Output -> CIP catalog you have the opportunity to enter licenses or modify files in different ways (e.g. tab -> tac, upper/lower case lettering, etc.).

Compare Section 4.7.2.1.14.1, “ CIP catalog ” in eCATALOGsolutions Manual.

  • Suppress appearance / Restore appearance

With this command, both entire directories as well as individual files can be hidden for the display of PARTdataManager.

Hidden directories are displayed in the index administration in red print.

  • Uninstall catalog

This command removes the selected directory from the index tree. Uninstall catalog is only available for top level directories (catalogs) and additionally added directories (own parts).

    Mark the catalog.

By right-clicking, open the Uninstall catalog menu.

--> The catalog is uninstalled and no longer displayed in PARTsolutions.

    [Note] Note

If you delete the top level folder all subdirectories will be removed. In addition a new index must be created (see Section 1.1.3.4.4.1, “ Generate new search index ”).

    [Note] Note

Index management is usually only possible by the administrator. In order to, for example, uninstall catalogs, you must set the entries below. The current mode is displayed in the status bar at the bottom right (Admin Del).

The corresponding entry in the configuration file can be edited under PARTadmin -> Category -> Configuration files -> $CADENAS_USER --> partsolu.cfg -> COMMON.

    Set:

    IsAdmin=YES
    CanDel=YES

    [Note] Note

Deinstallation when ERP integration is used:

You get a message, whether you also like to delete the linked entries in the LinkDB.

The entries from all relevant tables are deleted.

LINKTABLE, ERPTABLE, PLMTABLE2, PRJTABLE, CLASSASSIGNTABLE, TREETABLE

  • Remove

Only entries under user data can be removed.

1.1.3.4.5.2.1. Matrix: Software and Lucene index version

Relations in detail between Software and Lucene index version are shown by the following matrix.

Generally applies:

  • From the technical sight all combinations are possible.

  • Possibly updates enhance the search result quality. Especially with versions >= 9.05 a better analysis of words is performed. Furthermore as of version >= 9.05 the prioritization (depending where the term is found) is better.

  Software <= 9.02 Software 9.03 Software 9.04 Software >= 9.05
Lucene index <= 9.02 / A catalog update (update of Lucene index) is not required, but recommended. A catalog update (update of Lucene index) is not required, but recommended, because some normal search terms are not found. Searching for product numbers or the like works quite ok. Lucene-Index 9.03 A software update is not required. / A catalog update (update of Lucene index) is not required, but recommended, because some normal search terms are not found. Searching for product numbers or the like works quite ok. A catalog update (update of Lucene index) is not required, but recommended, because some normal search terms are not found. Searching for product numbers or the like works quite ok.
Lucene-Index 9.04 A software update is not required. A software update is not required. / A catalog update (update of Lucene index) is not required, but recommended in order to get the best quality.
Lucene-Index >= 9.05 A software update is recommended, because here the new index already contains a distinct stemming, but not the software. Searching for product numbers is working still satisfactory. A software update is recommended, because here the new index already contains a distinct stemming, but not the software. Searching for product numbers is working still satisfactory. A software update is not required and is not recommended. /

[Note] Note

In this matrix only the relation of Lucene index version and software version has been considered. However, catalog updates make also sense for other reasons, since they achieve enhancements concerning part quantity and quality in addition.

In PARTadmin under Index administration icons signalize the current status of the Lucene index. Details on this are found under Section 1.1.3.4.3, “ Icons and display in the index tree”.

1.1.3.4.5.2.2.  Manage fingerprints

In PARTadmin V9, a fingerprint scanner was implemented. This enables you to check whether or not your catalog contains exactly the desired fingerprints, and also make any changes after.

Example

Example

In the following, procedure and dialogs are explained:

  1. Mark the desired catalog or any sub-directory.

    Call up: Manage fingerprints

    Call up: Manage fingerprints

  2. By right-clicking, open the context menu and click on Manage fingerprints.

-> The Display options for fingerprint list dialog opens.

    Display options for fingerprint list

    Display options for fingerprint list

You now have the following options to check off:

    • Consider hidden projects

    • Only show fingerprints for selected templates

If you do not activate the checkbox, the fingerprints for all templates will be checked.

Otherwise only fingerprints for the activated templates. (Multiple selection possible with CTRL key) Templates that you do not use, can thus be ignored during the check.

      • Fast search

      • Fast search (size-dependent)

      • Standard search

      • Duplicate search

      • Duplicate search (size-dependent)

      • Color search

    • Compute statistics for directories (Takes some time)

If you activate the checkbox, a selection option is activated.

For the calculation of the directory statistics, select one of the following three options:

Project is considered complete in directory statistics...

      • ... Only if all lines are available

      • ... If minimum percentage existing

      • ... If all lines or minimum number existing

      For details see next point.

      Display options for fingerprint list

      Display options for fingerprint list

  3. Click OK.

-> The dialog box Existing fingerprints opens with a listing of all desired directories and projects.

If you had activated the option Compute statistics for directories (Takes some time), then behind the project names statistics are displayed, otherwise this column remains empty. Once you select a row on the left side, on the right side the single characteristics with algorithms are displayed. The activation state of checkboxes shows, whether the respective algorithm is available.

Now you can open single directories down to project level and check for possibly missing fingerprints/algorithms.

    Existing fingerprints: Dialog without statistics

    Existing fingerprints: Dialog without statistics

Existing fingerprints: Dialog with statistics. In this exemplary figure all projects are identified as complete (see left), although many characteristics do not contain fingerprints (see right). This is because each project has the minimum percentage of rows with calculated fingerprints.

Existing fingerprints: Dialog with statistics. In this exemplary figure all projects are identified as complete (see left), although many characteristics do not contain fingerprints (see right). This is because each project has the minimum percentage of rows with calculated fingerprints.

The background colors green, yellow, red and blue give a faster overview of the completeness of the elements.

A line is considered as complete if each algorithm exists. For the coloring of the projects and directories, it is checked, if all requirements of the previous dialog are met.

    Element complete

The respective row (characteristic) has all algorithms, thus is considered as complete.

When a project is considered as complete depends on which option had been chosen in the options dialog (see above).

Element incomplete: Not all available algorithms are used for the respective row (characteristic).

Element missing: No algorithms are available for the respective row (characteristic).

Element deprecated: Deprecated algorithms are used for the respective row (characteristic).

    [Note] Note

    Example with 2 projects:

1st project has 3 rows, for all 3 fingerprints are available => 100%

    2nd project has 4 rows, for 3 fingerprints are available => 75%

The following list shows, at which selection, which projects are considered as "complete".

    • Selection: Only if all lines are available -> Result: 1. Project is considered as available, 2nd not.

    • Selection: If minimum percentage existing - 50%: -> Result: Both projects are considered as available.

    • Selection: If minimum percentage existing - 80%: -> Result: The first project is considered as available.

    • Selection: If minimum number existing - 3: -> Result: Both are considered is as available, since for both 3 are there.

    • Selection: If minimum number existing - 100: -> Result: 1st project is considered as available, since all rows are available.

If you had activated the option Compute statistics for directories (Takes some time), in the dialog box Existing fingerprints at the very top a statistic encompassing all projects is displayed in addition.

    • Ratio of existing projects: When a project is considered complete depends on which values you selected in the option dialog. (See details above)

    • Ratio of complete lines: How man projects contain fingerprints for all rows?

    • Number of existing algorithms: How many algorithms across all projects (corresponding to the initial directory and template selection!) contain fingerprints?

  4. Add missing fingerprints

Optionally, you can add missing fingerprints.

Once the checkbox is activated, the respective dialog area is displayed in addition.

Dialog box "Existing fingerprints": Dialog area "Add missing fingerprints" shown

Dialog box "Existing fingerprints": Dialog area "Add missing fingerprints" shown

Reasons for subsequent adding of fingerprints could be for example:

    • For special company-internal processes you want to increase the percentual number of rows with fingerprints for special projects in order to improve the result quality during the geometric search.

    • In later catalog versions new algorithms were added and you want to recreate the fingerprints again.

    Do the following:

    1. Mark the desired projects or directories in the top of the directory tree (multiple selection possible with CTRL key).

    2. Click on Add.

-> In the Select projects dialog area, the selection is shown.

    3. Choose lines and algorithms

Algorithms: For the desired ones, mark the checkbox.

Percentage: For the first fingerprint creation, "10%" is usually used.

You may now adjust this value accordingly.

Absolute fraction: For the first fingerprint creation, "3" is usually used.

You may now adjust this value accordingly.

  5. Click OK.

If the option Add missing fingerprints has been deactivated, the dialog box is closed without any further actions.

If the option Add missing fingerprints has been activated, the generation starts. The progress bar in the dialog box Index update shows the progress.

After successful generation of the fingerprints the message Geometric search index has been updated is displayed.

In this example the fingerprints for a project in the directory "head cap bolts" have been created.

In this example the fingerprints for a project in the directory "head cap bolts" have been created.
