In order to assign face attributes, do the following:

In the 3D view click on the face that is to contain the attribute with your right mouse button and then on the command Face attributes....

Click on the desired attribute class. In this example: SYS_FaceAttributeColor (Class for colored faces)

-> The selected attribute is applied.
Enter the RGB color values. The color is calculated from the relation (independent of the selected unit). Enter, for example, 1,1,0 or 255,255,0 for the color yellow

Add... -> Selection in "Face attributes" window
-> The selected face is now yellow.
