4.18.1. Prepare catalog data (provided by customer as standard)

  1. Directory structure with STEP files

Build up the directory structure as desired or derive it from your PDM / PLM / ERP system.

Use any number of nested levels beginning with catalog over product groups, product families and projects.

The lowest directory level is the project directory. There, the STEP (.stp) files are stored.

    [Note] Note

Preferably choose a name for the project folder (exemplarily "Flange-Type1") which is suitable as Standard number as well. The respective entries in PARTproject are automatically set.

    [Note] Note

If there are multiple STEP files in the project directory, then later in PARTdataManager, in the characteristic attribute table, for each STEP file one row is created.[a]

[a] According to the chosen setting option. If desired, projects with only one row can be created as well.

  2. Optionally additional BMP files for preview images

    [Note] Note

If you use project preview images (.bmp) in addition, then please regard that the files have exactly the same name as the corresponding STEP (.stp) file.

If you use further preview images for product group / product family, then please regard that the name of the BMP file is the same as the level (folder) it shall be used for. In the above example these are the preview images for "Flanges" and "Flanges-Type1".

  3. Optionally additional CSV files

    [Note] Note

If you use CSV files with data for the characteristic attribute table in addition then please regard that the CSV file has the same name as the corresponding STEP file.

All CSV files to build the table have to be created according to the following scheme:

    1. row Variable name
    2. row Variable description
    3. row Unit
    4. row Variable value

If there is no unit or value available then leave the field empty.

    [Note] Note

    Avoid special characters and umlauts.

Minus, underline and empty space are allowed.

    [Note] Note

If a table in CSV format exists then it will be evaluated and all variables will be created 1:1. Which table columns are to be displayed in PARTdataManager or PARTproject is configurable.

If you don't use additional CSV files then a table with an automatically created column "NAME" is created. This contains the document name.

The statements for Standard number, Standard title, Standard name and Description for BOM are either automatically created or by reference to a specific table column.

The following statements are used by default if there is no explicit reference made to a table variable in the setting options.

    • Standard number (NN)

      Default: Name of project folder

    • Standard title (NT)

      Default: Empty.

      [Note] Note

If there is a CSV file and in the setting options a variable ($<variable name>.) is referenced then thereby the Standard title (NT) is created, otherwise this information is not displayed.
