Description

  • From a dream to a worldwide product: The portable operational microscope for ENT and ophthalmologists for use in developing countries.

After years of exposing patients to high risk in even routine procedures due to a lack of proper equipment the ENT doctor Eberhard Biesinger dreamed of a “travel microscope” to bring on his charity missions in Myanmar. The idea gave rise to a device that is now in use around the world in dozens of a multitude of procedures. ENTs and ophthalmologists preform urgent surgeries in the middle and inner ear, as well as eye surgeries to patients in regions where:

    • medical care is uncommon,
    • medical facilities are none existent or sparsely distributed,
    • short-term emergency relief operations are necessary
    • and/or where there is no reliable power supply

This microscope is a pure non-profit project. All development, assembly and other labour expenses are provided on a voluntary basis, the sales price is calculated only from the cost of the purchased parts without surcharge. The advantage here is the massive use of low-priced standard parts, from which the device consists of more than 80%. These standard parts can be sourced worldwide in the event of wear or replacement is needed at short notice.
