(EN) Berlin Marathon - Matko Bednjanec (CADENAS)

  • Marathons are becoming more and more popular around the globe. One of the biggest is the BMW Berlin Marathon for a good reason: this year, it was the 45th edition and approximately 45.000 runners participated in it! It took place on the16th of September 2018 where Kenyan, Eliud Kipchoge, won the Berlin marathon and also broke the world record this year. One of the participating runners was our CADENAS employee Matko Bednjanec, who joined us 6 and half years ago as a 3D modeler. This was his first time to be a part of such a world-famous sport event and he managed to finish the marathon, therefore we are very proud of him!

Matko started with running almost one year ago with the goal to be well prepared for this special marathon. He was always into sport since he was a child, so Matko knew he has to constantly train hard and eat well. No sugar, mostly carbohydrates, a lot of water and training 3 times a week. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, he runs 8 kilometers, while on Saturdays he runs around 20-35 kilometers to train his legs on a long distance. Seventeen runners from Slavonski Brod went to Berlin and participated in the marathon (they are all from the same running club).

When the marathon started, the biggest problem was to avoid all those runners and run between them. That took extra time and strength, something what Matko was not expecting. Refreshment tables were located every 5 kilometers, so you could drink something (while running!) and that was very important. Although he had terrible leg cramps for the last 7 kilometers, he managed to finish the marathon in 4 hours and 12 minutes.

CADENAS is proud of you, Matko!
