November 2017: Carl Quismundo (Arcadeous Phoenix)

    1. Can you tell us a little bit more about yourself and your background?
    • Jack of all trades regarding graphics
    • 3D Generalist / 3D instructor
    • I like to consider myself an artist (I thank my mom for that), and have been working as one for more than 20 years. Back in 1994, my dad bought a 486 PC which got me started in computers. I fell inlove doing 3D modeling and have been doing it eversince. I never stop learning new stuff.

     2. What software(s) do you use?

    • The first 3d software I learned was 3dstudio, back then, it was just a plugin for Autocad. Then few years back I got into Cinema4D which boosted my 3d artworks even more.
    • Other softwares I use from time to time are After Effects, Sketchup, Illustrator, Photoshop, a bit of Unity3D when needed.

     3. When and how did you start with 3D modeling and what was your first model?

    • I got fascinated with 3D when I saw a Dragon model done in 3ds max on a magazine in the early 90s. Not sure what my first 3D model was. But the first serious 3d model I did was a Robot Monkey.

    4. What are your favorite modeling subjects/themes?

    • I like hard surface modeling, sci-fi, steampunk/dieselpunk and futuristic stuff. I like creating stuff that hasn't been modeled or created before.

    5. Are you also into 3D printing?

    • Nope, haven't started yet. But soon!

     6. Is there any specific 3D model you are really proud off and why?

    • The Angelius space ship, it's a ship I created for the robot monkey. It's very memorable because I created it when I was still learning 3ds max. Now I call it Thersius, upto this day I'm still making iterations of it when I have the time. You can check the animation I did here:
    • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrzgmLiUyos
    • Part 1 was done on a Pentium 3 133Mhz PC in late 90's
    • and Part 2 early 2000's
    • The latest iteration is this one:

    7. What was the most challenging project you have done?

    • As a person that likes challenge himself everyday, that's a hard question LOL. But I guess if I have to choose one, it's the Megamonkey Project, because back then Internet was just starting. It's hard to find resources and learning materials. Unlike now-a-days, you can find everything through Mr. Google! Hahaha!

    8. As one of our most active members on PARTcloud.net, what do you find so attractive about it?

    • The weekly challenges
I like to keep challenging myself to do better than what I can do now, which is also the main reason I keep joing PARTcloud's weekly challenges.

     9. What features in PARTcommunity/PARTcloud you would like to see in future?

    • I like to see a sketchfab style of 3d presentation complete with lighting a PBR support.

    10. Do you have any other hobbies?

    • Playing Starcraft LOL / PS4 / XBOX and other PC games.

    11. Do you have any goals in future regarding 3D modeling?

    • Well the next goal for me is 3D printing. Still saving up money to buy one! Hahaha!

    12. What advise would you give to beginners?

    • Never stop learning, always keep challenging yourself to be better than what you are now. If you love doing it, you can always find time for it.
